The forty-sixth session of the IFAD Governing council meeting has kicked off today February 14, 2023, in Rome, Italy in the FAO meeting hall. His Excellency Dr. Girma Amante the minister of agriculture and his delegate are in attendance of the meeting representing Ethiopia.
The meeting has deliberated on important issues like IFAD’s work in fragile areas, indigenous people’s climate leadership, private sector finance for small producers, youth and agriculture, Africa food insecurity and challenges and opportunities in the water-food-energy nexus.
The whole discussion has revolved around investment in the rural areas to improve overall food and nutrition security for the rural people in particular and the whole nation in general. The meeting has also emphasized on the impact of war and conflict, climate crisis and Covid-19 on the food and nutrition security throughout the world and suggested that rural financing and technical support should be given to the member countries to improve the productivity capacity of small-scale farmers.
